Custom CNC Machined Parts for AI Liquid Cooling Servers

A practical sourcing guide to precision turned components for AI server liquid-cooling assemblies, covering material compatibility, sealing interfaces, finished dimensions and supplier quality evidence.

Specify each machined component by its function in the cooling assembly: whether it contacts coolant, locates another part, clamps a joint or carries a seal. Then agree the material, finished dimensions, sealing geometry and inspection evidence. A CNC machining capability alone does not establish qualification for a liquid-cooling application.

Where Precision Turned Parts Fit in a Cooling Assembly

A useful starting point is the interface, rather than a generic request for a high-precision part. Candidate turned geometries include cylindrical adapter bodies, sleeves, threaded retainers, locating collars and spacers. Some may contact coolant; others support the assembly without touching the fluid. These are design examples, not a statement that Chuanghe has supplied these products for AI servers.

Turning is relevant to rotational features, while cross-holes, flats or other details may require additional operations. Submit the complete drawing and mating-part information for manufacturing review. Do not assume that a supplier of turned hardware also supplies finished quick-disconnect couplings, cold plates or a complete cooling loop.

Choose Materials Against the Actual Coolant and Function

Material selection must cover the whole loop, including its fluid and connected components. A metal suitable for a dry mounting spacer is not automatically suitable for a wetted connector. Obtain the coolant specification, operating conditions and approved material list before choosing an alloy.

Aluminum may be evaluated where weight or heat transfer matters, while stainless steel may be considered for fluid-contact hardware. Neither description is a blanket compatibility approval. Where copper is considered for a heat-transfer component, assess it with the rest of the loop; this does not establish a supplier's cold-plate manufacturing capability. Specify the exact grade and condition rather than only a family name.

  • Ask the system owner to approve the combination of metal, coolant, seals and cleaning residues.

Review Brass and Plated Parts as Wetted-System Decisions

An easy-to-machine alloy is not necessarily an approved wetted material. Open Compute Project guidance discusses brass composition, dezincification concerns and the need to evaluate plated brass under the intended fluid chemistry and thermal conditions. A plating description alone is insufficient evidence of suitability.

Identify every wetted substrate and coating in the proposed part. Ask who approves compatibility when the component joins a system containing other metals. A material substitution should return to engineering review, even if the replacement has the same nominal dimensions. This system-level review is distinct from confirming that a factory can machine the material.

Specify Surface Treatment and Finished Dimensions Together

The finish specification should identify the substrate, treatment, controlled areas and acceptance method. Where a design calls for anodizing, passivation or plating, confirm that particular route and its application suitability before accepting the quotation. Do not assume that every listed treatment is available in-house.

Mark sealing lands, threads and locating surfaces that require masking or special inspection. State which dimensions apply after finishing. A visually acceptable surface does not establish correct thread fit, seal contact or coolant compatibility. Agree how finishing records and any subcontracted processing will be identified in the delivery documentation.

Set Dimensional Accuracy from Mating Features

There is no universal tolerance for AI liquid-cooling parts. Define the assembly references, then identify the dimensions and geometric relationships that control alignment, clamping or sealing. Depending on the design, these may include a locating diameter, shoulder length, face relationship, bore position or thread requirement.

Separate critical characteristics from general dimensions. Specify the applicable drawing conventions and the inspection condition, including whether the part is finished. Ask the supplier to review the actual geometry before agreeing capability. This article intentionally states no factory-wide tolerance, machine accuracy or inspection resolution.

Treat Seal Geometry as a Separate Design Requirement

For an O-ring interface, the gland, mating surface and elastomer must be considered together. Identify whether the seal is axial or radial and whether service is static or involves movement. Use the seal manufacturer's guidance for the specific arrangement rather than transferring one groove dimension or surface-finish value to every design.

Put the approved groove geometry, contact-surface requirements and entry details on the drawing. Review burrs and edges along the assembly path. A thread can retain a component without being its sealing mechanism. Dimensional conformity is necessary evidence, but it is not a substitute for application-specific sealing validation.

Agree Supplier Quality Evidence Before Production

Build the inspection plan around the critical characteristics. Request the material identification, drawing revision, finished-part measurements and records needed to trace the delivered batch. Agree the first-article scope, production sampling and treatment documentation with the supplier rather than assuming these services are included.

NIST distinguishes metrological traceability from fitness for purpose: a traceability claim does not by itself show that measurement uncertainty is suitable for a particular decision. Ask how each important feature will be measured and how conformity will be assessed. If pressure or leak testing is needed, separately agree the method, acceptance criteria, responsible party and evidence; this guide does not confirm Chuanghe has that testing capability.

What Chuanghe's Published Capabilities Establish

Chuanghe's public product information includes aluminum and stainless steel CNC machining parts, while its production information describes turning services. These establish a starting point for a drawing-based inquiry, not approval of a liquid-cooling component.

Before placing an order, request confirmation for the exact geometry, material grade, finish and inspection plan. This article makes no claim of AI-server customer references, liquid-cooling certifications, guaranteed leak rates or validated service life. Application approval remains a separate engineering decision.

Build a Drawing-Based RFQ Package

Use the following buyer checklist to make unresolved requirements visible before a manufacturing commitment. It is a proposed review framework, not a statement of the factory's certified procedures.

  • Provide the drawing revision, model, quantities and intended assembly function.
  • Mark wetted areas and provide the approved coolant and material requirements.
  • Identify sealing interfaces, critical dimensions and post-finish inspection requirements.
  • List required quality records and separately identify any application testing.
  • Ask the supplier to confirm exceptions before treating a quotation as an agreed specification.

Frequently asked questions

Which material is best for an AI server cooling connector?

There is no universally best material. Obtain approval for the exact alloy, coolant, connected metals, finish and sealing material. A general aluminum or stainless steel designation is not a compatibility specification.

Sources: Eaton: High Performance Liquid Cooling Loop Design

What machining tolerance should I specify?

Set tolerances from the mating features and inspection method, then obtain drawing-specific supplier agreement. Do not use an advertised general capability as the acceptance limit for every feature.

Sources: Chuanghe: Tolerance and Inspection Guide (local crawl evidence)

Does a precision-machined thread guarantee a sealed joint?

No. Establish the actual sealing mechanism. An O-ring interface needs an approved gland, mating surface and compatible elastomer; a retaining thread alone does not validate the seal.

Sources: Parker Pradifa: O-Ring Handbook

Does this guide confirm liquid-cooling production qualification?

No. The confirmed public scope is general CNC machining and turning-related products. Confirm application suitability, finishing and any testing requirements separately before production approval.
